I hold a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in NYS along with a Master’s degree in Taxation from the University of Texas at Austin.  I worked with Ernst & Young (E&Y) Accounting firm in the Dallas, Washington, D.C.  and New York City offices 4+ years to complete the work requirements to obtain my CPA license in addition to gaining invaluable work experience in the areas of audit and complicated tax issues.  I left E&Y to pursue an Acting Career while starting my solo tax practice that began by catering to the Creative Community in the NYC area.  As a CPA who has chosen to specialize my training through a master’s degree in taxation, with international Accounting firm experience and with the rigorous continuing education requirements required to maintain my CPA license, I feel that I am uniquely qualified for all my clients needs for tax filings and planning.

Additionally, my CPA tax practice has always benefited from my “other” careers/interests which in addition to my acting career have included transforming an abandoned 18,000 sq. ft. factory in Pennsylvania into a Theatrical Arts Center which I ran for 12 years, a professorship in accounting at Cedar Crest College in PA, renovating multiple houses to flip to take advantage of advantageous tax provisions ( Click here to see my Harlem Brownstone renovation that was featured in This Old House Magazine) and my most cherished “other” job as Dada to my twin 11 year old daughters.  My daughters and I even have a labradoodle breeding business “Cream Puff Labradoodles” that I started so they could experience (in a slightly different way) a little of the work experiences of my childhood on a farm in Texas.  An experience where I raised baby calves purchased at local dairy barns and raised on the bottle to sell when grown which ultimately bought my first car and helped me pay for my undergrad college at Baylor University.  They may be the only 9 year olds that know how to balance a checkbook already!

Due to my varied interests, education and life experiences, I have created a unique specialty and expertise with 30 years of history serving mostly clients in the performing arts and creative arts plus real estate ventures and related professions.  I enjoy hearing about each and every client’s year each year in our appointments - many clients which are now 30 plus years and counting.  I am immensely happy to return in 2015 to my original plan of a solo boutique tax and consulting practice with personalized care to each and every client.

ALAN M. CHAN, CPA - TAX Manager:

Alan is a CPA licensed in New York State. In addition to passing the extremely difficult CPA Exam, all CPA candidates must complete a work experience requirement by working with another individual who has their CPA license.  By working with Don for this work experience requirement, we are excited to announce that Alan has received his CPA license in 2016!.  As a Tax Associate, Alan will be assisting Don in the areas of Individual and Business taxation preparation. Alan earned his Masters in Taxation as well as his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the Bernard M. Baruch College of the City University of New York.

Outside of work, Alan is an avid pool and billiards player who has won many awards competing in tournaments in the tristate area.

We welcome Alan to our firm and know that the high standards of his educational accomplishments to date will translate to an enhancement of the tax filing experience that our clients have come to expect and deserve.
